🍕 Baycook – Pizza & Spaghetti with a View of Kumihama Bay
A Little Story
Baycook is one of my family’s favorite restaurants. I still remember my first visit back in 2017, when I came to Toyooka to meet my wife’s family — she took me here, and since then, whenever we want a change of scenery, we often return. The restaurant is located in the small city of Kyotango (Kyoto), about a 40–45 minute drive from our home.
Atmosphere & Location
When you arrive, you’ll see a two-story house sitting right on the edge of the bay. At first, I thought it was a freshwater lake, but later realized it was Kumihama Bay. The best seats are on the second floor facing the bay — just sitting there with the view feels relaxing. In Japan, food and scenery change with the seasons, so every visit to Baycook feels fresh and different.
Menu Highlights
The menu focuses on seasonal spaghetti and thin-crust pizzas baked to perfection — two must-mentions whenever someone asks me about the place. My son is crazy about their honey cheese pizza; he usually finishes almost the whole thing by himself 😄 (only leaving 1–2 slices for mom and dad). For a small family group, ordering a few kinds of spaghetti plus one pizza to share is just the right balance.

Price & Reservations
It’s a mid-range restaurant: main dishes cost around ¥1,200–2,000, and for a family of three including drinks, the bill usually comes to ¥5,000–8,000. The restaurant is not very large, and seating is limited, so it’s best to make a reservation. If you just show up, you’ll have to write your name on the list at the entrance and wait — sometimes quite a while, especially on weekends.
Access
Baycook is easiest to reach by car. If you take the train from Toyooka, get off at Kabutoyama Station and then walk about 1.4 km to the restaurant — think of it as a little exercise before the meal 😅.

But once you sit down by the bay, enjoying good food and the view, you’ll realize the trip was totally worth it — both for the stomach and the soul 🥰.
