Yanagi-yu (柳湯) – The Willow Hot Spring of Kinosaki
Tucked along the peaceful Otani River, Yanagi-yu, or “Willow Bath,” is the smallest of Kinosaki’s seven public hot springs. The name comes from the willow trees (yanagi) that line the nearby streets — their gentle sway perfectly reflects the calm, nostalgic mood of this cozy bathhouse.
History & Legend
Yanagi-yu has long been cherished as a family-friendly bath. In the old days, local women often visited here to pray for safe childbirth and healthy children.
Although the bathhouse has been renovated several times, it has kept its humble and warm spirit, beloved by both locals and returning visitors.
What to Expect
Inside, Yanagi-yu offers a simple wooden bathhouse design that feels both traditional and intimate. The natural hot spring water is slightly hotter than average (around 43°C), which locals say helps warm the body deeply — especially during the cold winter months.
Outside, you’ll find a footbath (ashiyu) where you can relax while watching the willow trees by the river. It’s a perfect place to rest during your onsen-hopping stroll.
